Kevin J. Sperl is a Staff
Photographer for the Salmon Press family of newspapers in New
Hampshire. Formerly with The Citizen / Fosters Daily Democrat daily
newspapers, Sperl has 5 years of photojournalism experience. His photos have been recognized numerous times as
the Associated Press for “Photo of the Month” and reprinted by trade
associations, corporations and nonprofit organizations throughout
the State.
Kevin founded Kevin J. Sperl Photography in 2002 which specializes
in environmental portraiture, events coverage and customized photo
montages of family celebrations. His expertise in capturing
naturescapes on film was spawned by a cross-country trip from
Newfoundland to British Columbia. During that time, Kevin
methodically photographed images he describes as “quiet” in contrast
to the fast-paced world of photojournalism he currently works in.
Many of those images served as inspiration for Kevin’s current
series of naturescape note cards and framed prints.
In 2006, Kevin’s work was part of the Photojournalists: Seven New
Hampshire Lenses exhibit at the Nackey S. Loeb School of
Communications in Manchester, NH. His work has also been exhibited
at the Imagine Gallery and Gallery at the Busiel Mill, both located
in Laconia, NH.
Kevin holds a Master of Science degree from the University of New
Hampshire and currently teaches 35mm photography at the New
Hampshire Community Technical College in Laconia and is a seminar
presenter at the Loeb School.
“One thing I have come to
learn about photography is that you cannot take pictures of the past
nor can you photograph the future,” he says, adding: “The present
moment is all we have, so take some time to notice.”
